Aboriginal communities tell their stories through dance and song

Heightened Vision recently had the opportunity to provide drone security and surveillance services at the Laura Quinkan Dance Festival whilst working in conjunction with Heightened Security's guards on the ground.

The performance and practice of Indigenous dance and culture at the biennial Laura Quinkan Indigenous Dance Festival is an essential element in the preservation and continuance of the unique culture of the region. Located in Far North Queensland, the Dance Festival Ground at Laura is a very old traditional Bora ground site. It is a respected and sacred site to theIndigenous people of the region and can be found nestled amongst some of the oldest and most spectator rock art in the world. The art was awarded Queensland Icon status by the National Trust in recognition of its significance to the environmental and cultural landscape. Known as a meeting ground for the communities of Cape York, the Laura Dance Festival is highly regarded byIndigenous people as a place where families meet new and old members, make new acquaintances and exchange and pass on family histories.

The festival enables the wider community to witness and gain insight into the uniqueness of Aboriginal culture. Festival spectators see the storytelling of Aboriginal culture through dance, language, and art. Make sure this event is pencilled into your calendar for 2023.

“Heightened Vision exceeded our expectations over the 3-day festival, providing aerial security and surveillance, going above and beyond the scope of work to deliver exceptional results.” Fiona John, Event Director, Laura Quinkan Indigenous Dance Festival
“It was a privilege to support such a prestigious event with our drone security services. Utilising drone technology, we provided aerial surveillance, helping to keep security teams on the ground informed in real time. Through thermal imaging and live video feeds, drone patrols play an important role in keeping festival attendees safe and minimising risks. This is vital at events such as the Laura Aboriginal Dance Festival where attendees and campers may not be familiar with the local area.” John Jarvis, Drone Pilot, Heightened Vision

Drone technologies play an increasingly important role in public safety, particularly at large gatherings such as festivals.
